The Venerable Bede Church of England Secondary School, Rhyhope, Sunderland

Located on a dramatic
hilltop site in Sunderland, the school is designed to reflect its Christian
ethos, and includes a flexible hall space for communal worship. Sustainable building design principles, full
integration of the latest teaching technology and naturally lit generous
circulation areas provide a true school for the future.

The proposals provided integrated provision for early years, childcare and primary education facilities, including a surestart “hub” and full service community provision; the target is for a “children's centre” status by 2006. The scheme proposed to bring three separate facilities to one site and involved design development through a steering group including head teacher, teachers, parents and governors from each facility together with the LEA, surestart and a separate education advisor.

Tik Tok Nursery, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear

Tik
Tok Nursery required a bespoke modern design to meet their requirements. The success of the building lies within its
inherent simplicity, with eight independent playrooms and a dining/multi use
area planned around a wide and well lit
circulation spine, linked with the main reception and external Porte
Cochere.

Technical Advisor & Client Design Advisor
|
|
Napper have acted as
Architectural Technical Advisor’s for three major local authority BSF projects
(Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Hull), totalling over £400 million of capital
expenditure and have recently been appointed as Architectural Technical Advisor
for the £50 million Northumberland “Hirst" Academy. Napper have also been
appointed in the role of Client Design
Advisor to assist in the successful delivery of the new schools and academies
for Sunderland. The CDA acts as a ‘crtical friend’ to the
development of designs and our role builds upon our initial ideas and advice
developed as part of the Technical Advisor team, as well the advice supplied to
Sunderland through the CABE Enabling’ programme.

Teesside University Facility, Darlington
|
|
Napper Architect’s five-storey higher education teaching facility in Darlington has recently gained full planning permission. The Teesside University facility is to be located close to the existing Darlington College and will be the first university building in Darlington. The building has 3,700m² of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching facilities spread over five storeys.
The design addresses the client brief for a striking presence whilst at the same time achieving a clearly organised and functional building. Click for 3D Movie

Finchale Training College, County Durham
|

Finchale
is a specialist college providing training and support to adults with physical
and mental health issues and special needs.
The proposed development of purpose built residential accommodation and
a rehabilitation centre adds to the facilities currently available and allows
the college to respond to the changing demands on its services.

South Tynside and Gateshead BSF
|
|
Napper were lead architects for the “Excell2gether” bid for South Tyneside and Gateshead Schools submission (ITSFT stage). The BSF project comprises 17 projects with a capital value of £172 million and is to be used a vehicle to deliver future Primary Care Trust buildings as well as Primary Schools.
Napper completed the designs up to Stage D for the two sample schools with a combined value of £32 million. Both designs propose unique solutions to reflect the Council’s new approach to delivering education in the 21st Century.

Creative Partnerships
|

Napper Architects have 'signed up' as a creative partner under the Arts Council sponsored Creative Partnerships Programme. At Wylam First School, we are working closely with the school to see the 'learning outcome' turn into a reality for the pupils and staff. The intention is to deliver the design and construction of a project in a way that allows the pupils to actively follow and be a part of the process.
