Hanover Mill and Forth Banks

Hanover Mill and Forth Banks both approaching completion. The conversion of the listed Hanover Street ‘Bonded Warehouse’ is complete, providing 48 one and two bedroom residential apartments, with the new build wing nearing completion and taking the total number of residences to 134. The client, Mandale Commercial Ltd, have also identified tenants for the ground floor retail units and are currently completing the fit-out.

The Forth Banks residential tower, multi-storey car park and offices, taking the total project value to £40million, are also being fitted out for a number of specific tenants / residents.

All scheduled for occupation in April / May 2008

Mowbray Apartments

Mowbray Apartments is a 39 unit residence which houses a mix of contemporary living spaces within a modern radial block and an existing historic building. Central to all this is a vibrant atrium featuring walkways, planting and feature lift.

Duke of Gloucester Visits Prudhoe High School

The Duke of Gloucester visited Prudhoe High School recently to inspect the work of Napper Architects.  The Creative Partnerships funded project has allowed the school to develop a design based learning project with the assistance of sponsorship in kind by Napper. This work builds on the success of the work with Wylam and Ashington first schools.

 

 

Guest Hall at Alnwick Castle

In January 2008 Napper finished the revamp on the original Anthony Salvin Guest Hall at Alnwick Castle. It finalises a masterplan of associated works within the Castle confines over the last three years. The new £0.75million  300 seater hall also  includes a new reception space, bar facility and restrooms. The hall complements the new restaurant and kitchen, previously installed last year and provides banqueting facilities for weddings and special events whilst also providing a venue for business conferences in the region.

Theatre Royal

In August 2007, the largest expansion in the Theatre Royal’s 170 year history was completed. Comprising of a new fly system, stage extension, bar, bistro, offices, corporate facilities and education performance area within a Grade 1 listed building.

 

Jerwood Centre Natural Stone Award

The Jerwood Centre at The Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere, Cumbria has been highly commended in the Natural Stone Awards 2006 for the use of Westmorland Green walling and roofing slate.  The Judges commented that "The design of this building is sensitive, taking its lead from the environment, with the walls constructed in random walling stone carefully considered and demonstrating a well judged scale.

 

"Art at the Station"

A new series of artworks has been unveiled at the Napper designed community fire stations in Tyne & Wear. The 'Art at the Station' project was a joint effort initiated by Commissions North and Arts Council England North East. Lead artist Matt Stokes collaborated with Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue Service, Jarvis plc and Napper Architects to turn the plans into a reality. The new stations were designed with the aim of encouraging closer links with local communities and the aim of the project was to strengthen that relationship.

 

Central Park Darlington unveiled

A major mixed-use development masterplan for central Darlington, designed by Napper Architects has recently been unveiled by Darlington Borough Council.

The Jerwood Centre Wins Hadrian Award

Napper Architects were presented with a Hadrian Award at a ceremony at Newcastle Civic Centre. The awards are presented for Architectural Excellence in the North East and Cumbria. This brings the tally of awards for this building to 4. The previous awards were from the Civic Trust, RIBA, and Stone Federation. The judges praised the choice and use of materials and finesse of the detailing. They referred to how well the building sits in the context of surroundings in the hamlet of Townend in the middle of the Lake District.

 

 

Hebburn Masterplan

A CONSORTIUM led by Tesco has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the £40m reshaping of a Tyneside town centre. As lead design consultants Napper Architects were responsible for the masterplan and detailed design proposals for the entire 20 acre (8 ha) site in Hebburn, South Tyneside.

The new development will include a supermarket; 200 new homes, including 50 affordable units, community facilities with a new library and a customer service centre; a small conference or gallery facility and a café; new units for smaller businesses; parking for shoppers and workers; a pedestrian route linking the shops to the houses and better lighting for the area.
