Napper have begun work on a new campus building for Teesside University in Darlington. Located opposite Darlington college and the Napper masterplanned Central Park the building will cover 3700 sq m and include flexible teaching spaces/ ICT learning, corporate learning, café, staff and admin facilities. Due for completion in 2011 the project is currently at planning RIBA stage C

CDMC Commission

Napper have been appointed to
carry out the CDMC role for the £25 million PFI project for the new fire
stations and Headquarters for the North East Fire and Rescue Authority.
This project is the latest to
add to our growing list of large scale CDMC commissions which
includes the City of Sunderland’s £100m BSF / Academies programme.

Darlington Council has just granted planning permission for
the Teesside University Building in Darlington. This is a Napper designed
building covering 3,700m² of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching facilities
spread over five storeys.

BSF, Stockton

Napper have been shortlisted for a £180m Building Schools for the
Future scheme in Stockton as part of the design team lead by Shepherd
construction. Bishopsgarth School and Ian Ramsey Church of England School will
be the first secondary schools in the borough to benefit from BSF investment.

Built-un-built - Napper Party 2009

Napper Architects recently hosted the “Built-unbuilt” event,
attended by over 100 guests. The design studio became an art gallery for
the evening as abstract representations on large canvases formed an exhibition
of completed and live architectural projects. Guests were invited to
identify the ‘Built’ projects to win the chance for dinner for two at the
prestigious Seaham Hall.

Sunbeams Music Centre, Redhills Cumbria

Napper Architects are pleased to announce planning
approval has been granted to a purpose built music therapy centre for the
charity Sunbeams. The design is a modern take on the surrounding Lake District
vernacular which was welcomed by local planners due to its contextual response
and the use of materials. The Charity is now raising funds for the project which
has been helped in part through the donation of Eleanor Rigby’s birth
certificate by Paul McCartney which was auctioned last year.

Morpeth Town Hall

Nappers are pleased
to have completed the remodelling of the historic Morpeth Town Hall at a cost
of £550,000.
The project reinstated the historic Butter Market as a new multi-use space, refurbished the Ballroom,
Council Chamber and Mayor’s Parlour, and incorporated a new kitchen, lift and
services throughout.

Architects named in supply chain to deliver under the ELIL Cumbria express LIFT
project”

Express LIFT Investments Limited (“ELIL”) has
been selected to deliver a multi-million pound programme of health projects
across Cumbria in what is a UK first. Napper Architects are delighted to be
part of the highly talented ELIL supply chain consultant team.
NHS Cumbria has appointed ELIL to form aLocal Improvement Finance Trust (“LIFT”) company to finance and redevelop the
county’s ageing community hospitals and deliver a range of other health
facilities.
The Consortium will assist in delivering aninitial pipeline of projects worth around £85 million over the first six years
of the 20-year partnership.
Cumbria is the first area in England to comeforward under the Government’s national ‘Express LIFT’ procurement framework. ELIL
is one of just seven private sector partners chosen from a shortlist of 14
bidders by the Department of Health to work under the new framework.

Napper Architects Awarded Conservation Accreditation

Napper
Architects are pleased to announce that John Curtis, Architectural Director,
has been accredited as a Conservation Architect by the AABC (Register of
Architects Accredited in Building Conservation).
Over thepast decade, John has worked on numerous listed churches for the Diocese of
Hexham and Newcastle, and has recently completed the remodeling and renovation
of the Grade I listed Theatre Royal, and the Merchant Adventurers Court in The
Guildhall, both in Newcastle upon Tyne. He is currently working on the complete
renovation and remodeling of the Grade II listed estate buildings, temple and
loggia associated with the £7 million HLF Stewart Park project in
Middlesbrough.

Team Napper raise over £1000 for Sunbeams

A team
at Napper Architects have recently completed the 160 mile cycle journey from
Tynemouth to Edinburgh to raise money for a new Music Therapy Centre for
children and adults based in Cumbria, designed by Napper.
Since winning planning approval for the Sunbeams Music Centre in Cumbria, the
award winning charity is now in the process of fundraising to finance the
construction. They are looking to raise £1.5 million to build the centre,
designed by the charity founder member’s nephew, Will Mawson of Napper
Architects. The cycle ride has helped raise awareness of the charity andcontributed to the future build costs of this exciting project.
Sunbeams is an award winning charity that provides Music for Life to people with specialneeds throughout the North of England. They provide over 100 live music
workshops per month to children and adults with a wide variety of special needs
including physical disabilities and mental health problems, Alzheimers and
senile dementia, cerebral palsy, autism, Down's Syndrome, sensory impairments,emotional and behavioural disturbance and profound multiple disabilities.
