Jerwood Centre Wins Hadrian Award

Napper Architects were presented with a Hadrian Award at a ceremony at Newcastle Civic Centre. The awards are presented for Architectural Excellence in the North East and Cumbria. This brings the tally of awards for this building to 4. The previous awards were from the Civic Trust, RIBA, and Stone Federation. The judges praised the choice and use of materials and finesse of the detailing. They referred to how well the building sits in the context of surroundings in the hamlet of Townend in the middle of the Lake District..

Mowbray Apartments

Mowbray Apartments is a 39 unit residence which houses a mix of contemporary living spaces within a modern radial block and an existing historic building. Central to all this is a vibrant atrium featuring walkways, planting and feature lift.

Hanover Mill and Forth Banks

Hanover Mill and Forth Banks both approaching completion. The conversion of the listed Hanover Street ‘Bonded Warehouse’ is complete, providing 48 one and two bedroom residential apartments, with the new build wing nearing completion and taking the total number of residences to 134. The client, Mandale Commercial Ltd, have also identified tenants for the ground floor retail units and are currently completing the fit-out.

The Forth Banks residential tower, multi-storey car park and offices, taking the total project value to £40million, are also being fitted out for a number of specific tenants / residents.

All scheduled for occupation in April / May 2008

Hebburn Masterplan

A CONSORTIUM led by Tesco has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the £40m reshaping of a Tyneside town centre. As lead design consultants Napper Architects were responsible for the masterplan and detailed design proposals for the entire 20 acre (8 ha) site in Hebburn, South Tyneside.

The new development will include a supermarket; 200 new homes, including 50 affordable units, community facilities with a new library and a customer service centre; a small conference or gallery facility and a café; new units for smaller businesses; parking for shoppers and workers; a pedestrian route linking the shops to the houses and better lighting for the area.

 

Company Restructure

Napper Architects are delighted to announce the promotion of Alan Rees, Dean Thody, Mark Bowman and Tim Rainford as Operational Directors within the company.

Formerly Associates, they have all played significant roles in delivering recent major projects with Napper Architects.  The new role involves the management and business development of the company in addition to architectural delivery of projects.

Coop, Hexham

A major new retail development in the historic town of Hexham has recently been granted full Planning Approval. The contemporary proposal, designed by Napper Architects will provide approximately 3500 sqm of new retail floorspace.  The project was submitted for Planning Approval on behalf of the Co-operative Group following an extensive pre-application consultation which generated the strong support of the local people. To assist the consultation and approval process, Napper constructed a 3-d interactive computer model of the building allowing Planners and local residents to view the development from any chosen location.

Mowbray Apartments, Sunderland

Nappers are delighted to announce that Mowbray Apartments in Sunderland has gained regional and national recognition at recent awards. The mixed housing and leisure scheme was winner of the Residential Development of the Year award at the Journal Landmark awards and gained an award  from “Building for Life”, the national standard for well designed homes and neighbourhoods backed by CABE and the Home Builders Federation.

River Quarter II, Sunderland

Napper Architects are delighted to announce the recently completed River Quarter in Sunderland has been recognised for its architectural merit.  The mixed use city centre development, including 53 apartments  and two floors of leisure use, won the Building Excellence Award for Best Housing Project (Large Development) at the recent LABC awards.

Napper Architects Office Trip

To celebrate the completion of the River Quarter in Sunderland Napper Architects organised an office trip around the building that houses 53 apartments and 2 floors of 10pin bowling. The visit culminated in the staff donning their bowling shoes and taking to the lanes of the bowling alley to re-live their youth in an effort to recreate the antics seen in the film Kingpin.
