River Irthing Footbridge, Willowford

The 42 metre span bridge over the River Irthing at Willowford forms a key link in the Hadrians Wall path from Wallsend to Bowness.  The sensitivity of the site meant that the bridge had to be prefabricated off site and moved into position with a helicopter.  Winner of  4 architectural awards in the period of 1999-2001.

River Tees Barrage, Middlesbrough

A competition winning solution to the new road and pedestrian crossing over the barrage on the River Tees at Stockton.  Napper were responsible for the concept design of the bridge and executive architects for the buttress and pavilions.  The scheme won a total of 3 awards in 1995.

Grainger Town Multistorey Carpark, Newcastle upon Tyne

Part of the East Blenheim Street site redevelopment.  The multi-storey car park fronts the new St James’ Boulevard and provides a high quality urban space with lively building frontages featuring retail, bar and restaurants to both the Boulevard and Piazza.

Park Lane Interchange, Sunderland

A partnering project with City of Sunderland’s in house architectural team to design a bus/metro interchange in the heart of the city.  Napper produced the concept and outline design which the in-house team developed and took to site.

Sandgate Car Park, Newcastle upon Tyne

The car park was a key component in the Tyne and Wear Development strategy for the

redevelopment of East Quayside, and is recognised for both its design and safety record.

A total of 1167 spaces are provided.

St Peter's Metro Station, Sunderland

Napper Architects were commissioned up to RIBA stage D by Nexus to design a new metro station as part of the extension of the metro system to Sunderland.

The scheme provides a lightweight structure which sits over the existing stone vaulting to the railway line. The line opened in 2002.

Deneside Bridge, East Wallhouses, Northumberland

Following the success of the award winning bridge over the river Irthing at Willowford in Cumbria, Napper were commissioned to design a series of bridges of varying spans along the route of Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail. These bridges were built from a ‘kit of parts’ (Cor- ten steel and oak boarding) and designed to be installed without expert engineering, to be low maintenance and blend into the surrounding countryside without affecting the archaeological remains.

Far Moor Bridge, Yorkshire

The Far Moor bridge design proposals were prepared in response to a limited design competition prepared by the Yorkshire Dales National Parks Authority in conjunction with National trails.

The design looks at providing an elegant simplified structural solution utilizing a CORTEN steel structure and employs salvaged timber which has a natural connection with its surroundings. The patina, effectively ‘rust’ coloured, weathers and changes with the seasons and possesses an almost timeless quality.
